![]() NISP is creating over 400,000 sq ft of bespoke hi-tech space to service Northern Ireland's growing ICT, Life Science, Engineering and Biotech sectors. The 56,000 sq ft Innovation Centre, designed as Northern Ireland's most flexible and hi-tech workspace solution, was NISP's first development. With 100% occupancy, the Innovation Centre includes a rich mix of innovative occupants ranging from Microsoft and Meridio to Wavebob, a renewable energy company developing a wave energy converter. The Science Park complements the depth of expertise in Northern Ireland's universities by exploiting their creativity and encouraging the commercialisation of research. Queen's University's 40,000 sq ft 40m Electronics, Communications and IT (ECIT) Research Unit, a world class research centre housing Queen's University's internationally renowned expertise in electronics and computer science was the second facility to open at NISP. As smaller locally based start-up ventures begin to outgrow the Innovation Centre, more space is required, and so NISP has developed two new facilities, the 25,000 sq ft Legacy Building and the 40,000 sq ft White Star House. New facilities Legacy Building Opened in 2006, this 25,000 sq ft, two storey facility provides units ranging from 5,000 sq ft to 6,000 sq ft and will accommodate larger corporate occupants and SMEs which have outgrown their space in the nearby Innovation Centre. The facility uses a natural gas fuelled dual heating and cooling system with reverse air heat pumps as an energy efficient alternative to electrical air conditioning systems, underlining NISP's commitment to sustainable development. White Star House Opened in summer 2006, this 40,000 sq ft facility houses 350 knowledge-workers attached to Citigroup's Northern Ireland Global Technology Centre of Excellence. White Star House has also been designed to adopt the ethos of the Carbon Trust's 'Low Carbon Design' initiative. The facility uses deep ground water from the Lagan Valley aquifer situated below the site to regulate temperatures inside. Award winning facilities All of NISP's facilities provide occupants with international broadband connectivity, award winning ICT platforms and flexible real estate / lease options to cater for the specific needs of knowledge-based ventures. Science Parks facilitate the growth of business, especially new businesses built from research and innovation in universities. By combining the best hi-tech business and research, NISP is creating a new stimulus for the commercialisation of Northern Ireland's extensive reserves of intellectual property.
