The European Union Science Olympiad (EUSO), founded by Michael A. The EUSO is different from the other Science Olympiads with regard to student age, content, time of year and format. It is complimentary to the existing International, Regional and National Science Olympiads and not in competition with them.

In May 2002, the first meeting of the EUSO Governing Body was held in Dublin. It was attended by:

Mr Michael A. Cotter (Ireland: Chairperson)
 Mr Grard Cobut (Belgium)
 Dr Echkard Lucius (Germany)
